CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's basketball team is set to kick off the 2012-13 season with an exhibition tune up on Saturday, Nov. 3 against the Greyhounds of Indianapolis. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Cintas Center and admission is FREE!
About the Musketeers
Xavier finished the 2011-12 season with an 8-20 overall mark and a 5-9 record in Atlantic 10 play, making its 17th-consecutive appearance in the A-10 Tournament. As a team, the Musketeers ranked sixth in the league in rebounding margin (+3.1) at the end of last season and also ranked seventh in free throw percentage (.701) and field goal percentage (.400). XU returns four starters from a year ago and will have one junior college transfer and four freshman available for action.
The Musketeers' top returning scorer (10.6 ppg.) and rebounder (8.1 rpg. - 3rd A-10) senior Jessica Pachko was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team heading into the 2012-13 season. Sophomore Lakeisha Crouch is the team's second-leading returning rebounder after averaging 6.4 boards per contest a year ago and junior Shatyra Hawkes ranked seventh last season in assists with 3.4 per game.
Indianapolis was 19-11 last season and made its ninth appearance in the Division II NCAA Tournament.The Greyhounds also return four of their starters from last season and have only two freshmen on their roster. UIndy ranked 11th nationally (DII) in free throw percentage (76.6) and 12thin field goal percentage (44.6) in 2011-12.
The Greyhounds return their 2011-12 leading scorer in senior Kristin Turner who averaged 19.4 ppg. last season. Senior Sydney Weinert averaged a team-best 6.3 rpg. and was third in scoring at 9.3 ppg. a year ago.
Xavier and Indianapolis have previously met three times, including two times during regular season play and in an exhibition contest last season. XU has won two of the three meetings and bested UIndy, 58-41, in the 2011-12 tune-up a year ago. Seniors Amber Gray (16) and Jessica Pachko (10) were the game's only double-figures scorers as the Musketeers cruised to the 17-point win.
