XU-UC Women's Basketball Aims to Sell Out the Shootout Again
Oct. 30, 2007 SELLOUT THE SHOOTOUT PRESS CONFERENCE
This game will have special meaning as some 500 former female athletes who played from the 1940s through early 1980s will be honored at the game and at an evening banquet where they will receive their varsity letters, as the NCAA did not sanction women's athletics until 1983. "We want this program to set a precedent for other Division I NCAA programs to encourage them to honor their former athletes and award them varsity letters," said Bill Keating Jr., organizer of the Women's Crosstown Shootout Weekend. "We are thrilled to honor already-successful women: Mothers, daughters, executives and even Olympic Gold Medal winners." Last January at UC's Fifth Third Arena, the annual matchup between crosstown rivals sold out for the first time in the history of the women's series. For December's game, fewer than 3,000 tickets remain. "Cintas is very proud to be associated with the Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout," said Shelly Eddy, Director, Sponsorships and Alliances for Cintas. "The sold-out game last year is a testament to this city and its support of our female athletes, their passion and competitive spirit. As one of The winner will take possession of the Kendle Cup, awarded first last January to the winner of the women's crosstown matchup. Last January Xavier won, 89-76, behind Amber Harris' 32 points.
