CINCINNATI - The Xavier University women's basketball team has been picked to repeat as Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champions in a vote by league coaches as announced by the conference on Wednesday. The Musketeers received 12 of 14 first place votes. Additionally, Amber Harris and Ta'Shia Phillips earned mention on the Preseason First Team and the All-Defensive Team while Special Jennings was recognized on the Third Team.

Xavier finished the 2008-09 regular season with a 25-7 record and won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title with a 13-1 mark. Last year's team was without the services of Harris who sat out the entire 2008-09 season due to injury. Harris averaged 8.9 rebounds and a team-high 15.3 points per game during the 2007-08 season, which saw her named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team. Harris will also give a boost to the Musketeer defense, as she is already XU's all-time leader in blocked shots with 228 rejections. The Musketeer led the country field goal percentage defense during 2008-09 season.

Phillips made up for Harris' absence last season and was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year after averaging 13.9 points, and 12.1 rebounds per game. Phillips has been collecting several preseason accolades lately, earning mention on the Wade Trophy and Wooden Award Preseason Watch Lists in addition to being honored as a Preseason First Team All-American by The Sporting News.

Jennings showed great improvement during her sophomore season and she is poised to shine as one of the best point guards in the conference this year. Jennings averaged 8.3 points and 3.3 assists per game a year ago. She also morphed into a serious outside shooting threat and led the league in 3-point shooting at 43.4 percent.

Xavier will play its only preseason contest on Saturday, November 7 when the Musketeers welcome Division II Indianapolis to Cintas Center. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
