CINCINNATI - The Xavier University women's basketball team continues to be in the good graces of the preseason prognosticators as the Musketeers have been ranked No. 7 in Athlon Magazine's 2009-10 Women's Top 25. XU was also ranked No. 10 in the Sports Illustrated preseason top-25.
The Musketeers, who finished first nationally in field goal percentage defense and third in rebound margin, return three starters from the 2008-09 team that won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship. Included in those returnees is preseason All-American Ta'Shia Phillips. Phillips, who competed with Team USA's World University Games Team during the summer, averaged team highs of 13.9 points and 12.1 rebounds per game en route to being named A-10 Player of the Year last season.
XU also looks forward to the return of junior forward Amber Harris, who was forced to sit out the 2008-09 campaign due to injury. Harris averaged 15.3 points and 8.9 rebounds during the 2007-08 season and already owns XU's all-time blocked shots record.
Junior point guard Special Jennings and senior forward April Phillips are also back after having outstanding 2008-09 seasons. Jennings scored 8.3 points and dished-out 3.3 assists per game while April Phillips averaged 7.7 points and was second on the team with 8.5 rebounds per game.
