CINCINNATI- The Xavier women’s basketball released its complete 2011-12 schedule Thursday, including a 14-game Atlantic 10 slate. The schedule includes 15 teams that saw postseason action in 2010-11 with six of those opponents making the 2011 NCAA Tournament field.
The Musketeers have made five consecutive, and 10 overall, appearances in the NCAA Tournament and have claimed four of the last five A-10 Championship titles along with three-straight regular season titles. Head coach Amy Waugh is entering into her first season at the helm of the Xavier program after serving two years as an assistant at XU.
“We are excited about the quality of our schedule," Waugh commented. "Our non-conference tests should help prepare us for the challenging A-10 schedule but we need to work hard from now until opening night to be ready for the season. We hope our fans recognize the quality of opponents coming to the Cintas Center and will continue to give us a great home court advantage all year long.”
Three games have been scheduled to air on national television, one on ESPNU and two contests on CBS Sports Network (formerly CBS College Sports Network) – all three will be broadcast from Cintas Center. Other television opportunities may be added to the schedule at a later date.
Home games against Stanford, Cincinnati and Middle Tennessee along with road contests at Louisville and the 2011 Duel in the Desert highlight the non-conference portion of the schedule. The Musketeers will welcome Charlotte to Cintas Center on January 7 to open the A-10 slate at home.
Also on the home schedule are A-10 foes Saint Joseph’s, Temple, Saint Louis, Dayton, Richmond and Massachusetts. The Musketeers will travel to Duquesne, La Salle, Rhode Island, George Washington, Fordham, St. Bonaventure and Dayton to round out league play.
The 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship will be held at Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pa., March 2-5.
Xavier has won 43 of its last 44 regular season Atlantic 10 games, a streak that dates back to a 60-57 win over St. Bonaventure on March 1, 2008. Since March of 2008, Xavier has gone a perfect 21-0 at home in league contests. The Musketeers have now won 34 consecutive A-10 games (including postseason), a streak that is the third-longest active conference winning streak in the nation (Connecticut/Big East 67, Stanford/Pac-10 54).
The impressive home schedule of 15 games, including 14 regular season contests, is attractive to potential season ticket buyers since nine of the home games are on the weekend (two on Friday, four on Saturday and three on Sunday). Season tickets are now on sale. Fans can go to GoXavier.com for more details or call the Xavier athletic ticket office at 513-745-3411.
