CINCINNATI - Xavier women’s basketball announced its 2011-12 non-conference schedule which includes seven home games and one home exhibition contest. The Musketeers will open the regular season on November 12 at home against Eastern Kentucky.
”I think we've got a very ambitious non-conference schedule ahead of us, and that's the way I like it,” commented head coach Amy Waugh. “We're certainly going to be tested, but that's a very important step for the continued growth of our program. All our players can look at this schedule and know they need to show up for the first day of practice ready to go to work because this won't be a season they can ease into. We must be ready immediately and use each of these games as an opportunity to learn about ourselves and build toward the Atlantic 10 season.”
Waugh will kick off her career as XU’s head coach in an exhibition contest against Indianapolis on Nov. 5. Her first regular season game will be against the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky as the 2011-12 season gets under for XU on Nov. 12. The Musketeers will play two tough road games at Mississippi State on Nov. 14 and at Louisville Nov. 20.
Xavier returns home for a five-game homestand beginning with Stanford on Nov. 25 and the Musketeers close out November with a matchup against South Carolina on the 30th.
The Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout returns to Cintas Center as XU plays host to Cincinnati on Dec. 4 and Morehead State comes to town on Dec. 6. The Musketeers will play their third game in six days when XU squares off against Middle Tennessee on Dec. 9.
Las Vegas will be the next step for Xavier as the Musketeers are set to take part in the 2011 Duel in Desert Dec. 18-20. XU will face off against three tough teams in three days: Oklahoma, Syracuse and Ohio. After Christmas break, the Musketeers head east to Wilmington, N.C., for a Dec. 29 contest at UNC-Wilmington.
The non-conference schedule closes out on either Jan. 4 or 5 against Eastern Illinois at Cintas Center.
Xavier will also play seven home Atlantic 10 contests in 2011-12. XU will host Saint Joseph’s, Massachusetts, Charlotte, Dayton, Richmond, Saint Louis and Temple.
