Ta'Shia Phillips Honored by the Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Women's Sports Association

CINCINNATI – Sophomore Xavier University women’s basketball standout Ta’Shia Phillips has been honored as the Women’s College Basketball Sportswomen of the Year by the Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Women’s Sports Association. XU’s all-time leading scorer, Tara Boothe, also took home the award in 2006. Phillips, who has been recognized due to her work on the court, in the classroom and in the community, is one of six collegiate student-athletes from the region to earn the honor. Northern Kentucky University’s Jessica Slack (basketball), Thomas More’s Jayme Thiem (basketball) Miami’s Alyson Schmidt (swimming), and Cincinnati’s Jessie Nevitt (volleyball) and Jasmine Cotton (track) are this year’s other honorees. Phillips, a 2008-09 Associated Press honorable mention All-America selection, averaged team highs of 13.9 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. She finished the season ranked fourth nationally in both rebounding and field goal percentage (.613) and was honored as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.
