CINCINNATI - Kevin McGuff has resigned from his position as head women's basketball coach at Xavier University to accept the same position at the University of Washington. A nationwide search for a new coach will begin immediately.
McGuff leaves Xavier as the program's winningest coach with a 214-73 (.746) record over nine seasons. He led his team to postseason play in all nine of his years at Xavier, including five consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament and an Elite Eight finish in 2010. McGuff guided the Musketeers to three straight Atlantic 10 regular season titles as well as four A-10 Championship titles in the last five seasons.
"The Xavier women's basketball program has come a long way since coach McGuff took the job in 2002," Xavier University Athletic Director Mike Bobinski said. "I am very thankful for all his work in developing the program to the point where it is today. We have been one of the elite programs in college basketball including finishing in the top 10 in the nation the past two years. I wish him the best of luck as he moves on to the University of Washington."
According to Bobinski, a nationwide search for a new coach will begin immediately. "I think we have a very attractive position," he said. "We will take the time to conduct a thorough search to find a qualified candidate who best fits the mission of Xavier University. It is my intention to not comment publicly on specific candidates or the search while it is in progress."
