CINCINNATI - Xavier University head women’s basketball coach Brian Neal has announced that Raeshaun Gaffney (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield HS/Virginia), formerly of the University of Virginia, will join the Musketeer basketball program for the 2014-15 season. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"Raeshaun had an unbelievable high school career here in Cincinnati and was one of the top-ranked players in the country," Neal said. "She can play either guard spot. She’s very skilled, explosive on the offensive end and what we like most about her is her toughness. She will compete in the Big East."
Gaffney spent two seasons playing for the Cavaliers (2012-14). After missing the 2012-13 season following surgery to repair a stress fracture in her right shin, she returned to the court in 2013-14, appearing in 27 games, averaging 11.1 minutes and 3.1 points per contest with 20 assists and 17 steals.
The 5-9 guard grabbed a rebound in 20 games and registered a steal in 12 contests, which included three games with multiple thefts.
Rated as the No. 35 2012 prospect by Blue Star Basketball and a 2012 ESPNHoopGurlz Top 100 prospect, she averaged 26.7 points and 10.0 rebounds as a senior and was a McDonalds All-American nominee. As a junior, the guard averaged 26.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.1 steals en route to Division I second-team all-state honors.
Gaffney, is the fifth addition to a solid 2014 recruiting class for Coach Neal and the Musketeers. She joins Jada Byrd (Lithonia Ga./Redan HS), Imani Partlow (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods HS), Marquia Turner (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover HS) and Kindell Fincher (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury HS), who all signed National Letters of Intent in November.
