Sunday's Game Notes

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University women's basketball team is set to take on Temple in an Atlantic 10 Championship semifinal on Sunday, March 4.  Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and the contest will be televised nationally by CSTV.  The Xavier vs. Temple game will be preceded by the George Washington vs. Saint Joseph's semifinal with the winner of each game advancing to Monday's Championship Game set for 5 p.m. 

 

The Series vs. the Owls
Xavier is 7-8 all-time vs. Temple and the Musketeers have lost six in-a-row to Temple. Xavier has played the Owls tight of late, losing the last four games by an average of 2.8 points.  Xavier won six of the first seven games in the series with Temple but XU has not defeated the Owls since February 13, 2003, a 64-56 win in Philadelphia.  XU is 3-4 vs. the Owls in Cincinnati but the Musketeers have lost four straight to Temple at home.                            
Regulars in the Semis
Xavier has advanced to the semifinal of the Atlantic 10 Tournament a total of eight times in 12 Tourney appearances.  The Musketeers appeared in the semis six consecutive times (1998-2003) before falling to Temple in the 2004 Quarterfinal.  Xavier last advanced to the semis in 2005 and has made it to the Tournament semifinal eight times in the last 10 years.

The Musketeers are 8-3 all-time in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.  XU dropped a 70-67 decision at Saint Joe's in last year's quarterfinal.     

Home Streak Still Breathing
XU has not lost consecutive home games in a span of 49 games.  The last time XU lost consecutive home games came on November 27 and December 4, 2004 when Xavier lost to Auburn (55-53) and Maryland (74-72) respectively. 

20 Win Notes
Xavier won its 20th game of the season on 2/15 at Richmond, marking the 10th time the Musketeers have reached the 20-win plateau.  The win was also XU's third consecutive 20-win season, marked the second straight year Xavier has won 20 regular season games and marked the fourth time in five years that Kevin McGuff has recorded 20 wins.  Xavier has won at least 20 games in seven of the last nine years.  XU tied the 1999-00 team for the second-most regular season wins in program history with 23.  The 24 victories also marks the third most all-time and the most since Kevin McGuff took over prior to the 2002-03 season.

Clyburn, Granderson and Harris Earn Postseason Honors From A-10
Senior forward Joei Clyburn, senior guard Suntana Granderson and freshman forward Amber Harris all received postseason accolades from the Atlantic 10.  Clyburn was the second Musketeer all-time to be honored as Sixth Player of the Year, Michele Miller won the award in 2004-05.  Harris was only the third freshman all-time to be named to the First Team, Suzie McConnell (Penn State, 1984-85) and Korie Hlede (Duquesne, 1994-95) were the only other rookies to ever make the First Team.  Harris is also XU's first All-Defensive Team selection since the team's inception in 2001-02 and is the school's third Rookie of the Year Award winner.  Tara Boothe (2002-03) and Amy Waugh (1999-00) also earned the accolade.  Additionally, Harris' 12 Rookie of the Week honors were the most all-time earned by any A-10 student athlete regardless of sport.
