CINCINNATI - Junior center Ta'Shia Phillips has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after leading the No. 5 Xavier University women's basketball to team to a spotless 2-0 week and an undefeated conference season, as announced by the league on Monday. The Musketeers are riding a 15-game winning streak and improved to 24-3 on the year after defeating both Charlotte and Fordham.
XU earned the No. 1 seed in the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship, which will take place from March 5-8 at Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. XU is one of four teams to earn a first-round bye and will take on either No. 8 Richmond or No. 9 Massachusetts on Saturday, March 6 at 12 p.m.
Phillips and teammate Amber Harris were each honored as Jesuit Women's Basketball Players of the Week as well.
Phillips posted a pair of double-doubles en route to averaging 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting a blistering 85 percent for the Musketeers. She scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and hauled in 15 rebounds in XU's 81-61 victory over Charlotte and followed that up with a 25-point, 10-rebound effort in the Musketeers' 74-59 win at Fordham. Phillips made her first 11 shots from the field and also posted two assists and two blocks against the Rams.
The double-double was her sixth in-a-row and the 51st of her career. Phillips is leading the Atlantic 10 at 10.8 rebounds per game.
Fans can listen to all of XU's Atlantic 10 Championship games via live internet radio broadcast. Both semifinal contests will be televised nationally by CBS College Sports and the final will air on ESPN2.
