ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The No. 6/6 Xavier women's basketball team is looking for its 12th consecutive win Wednesday with a victory at Saint Louis. The Musketeers and Billikens are set to tip off at 8 p.m. ET at SLU's Chaifetz Arena.
About the Musketeers
No. 6/6 Xavier (21-2, 10-0 A-10) is currently enjoying an 11-game winning streak, dating back to its 83-51 win over Missouri on Jan. 5. This past Saturday, the Musketeers picked up a 77-55 victory over visiting Fordham as XU had four players score in double figures. As a team, XU leads the Atlantic 10 with a .458 field goal percentage (12th NCAA) and also ranks first in scoring margin (+18.9 - 11th NCAA), rebounding margin (+10.3 - 8th NCAA), assists (17.3 - 13th NCAA), assist/turnover ratio (1.1 - 13th NCAA) and attendance (2,471).
Three Musketeers are averaging double-figures scoring, including redshirt senior Amber Harris who ranks fourth in the A-10 with 18.4 ppg. and second in the league with 10.0 rpg. Senior Ta'Shia Phillips also averages a double-double with 15.0 ppg. and 12.7 rpg. (1st A-10, 2nd NCAA) and junior Tyeasha Moss is scoring 10.3 ppg. Senior Special Jennings loves to pass the ball and her 5.1 apg. is tops in the conference. She takes good care of the rock too - her 2.3 assist/turnover ratio is best in the A-10 and 12th in the nation.
Scouting Saint Louis
Saint Louis (7-18, 1-9 A-10) has dropped five-straight contests and has lost 11 of its last 12 games. Most recently, SLU was upended at Rhode Island, 68-54, on Sunday and the Billikens’ only conference win came against Fordham at home, 64-54. As a team, Saint Louis has the fifth-best rebounding offense in the league at 39.0 and is sixth in rebounding margin (+2.0) and three-point FG% defense (.320).
The Billikens are led by Lauren Woods who averages 10.3 ppg. while Jacy Bradley averages 8.2 ppg. and a team-best 2.5 apg. Lorreal Jones is the team’s leading rebounder with 7.4 boards per contest which ranks ninth in the A-10 and Ayriell Robinson has a team-best 34 steals so far this season.
The series between Xavier and Saint Louis began 31 years ago in Cincinnati as the Billikens came away with an 86-61 win over the Musketeers on Jan. 26, 1980. The two have previously met 20 times with Xavier holding the 14-6 all-time advantage. The last time XU and SLU squared off was Jan. 20, 2010 in Cincinnati as the Musketeers posted a 42-point victory, 92-50.
