CINCINNATI --- Sophomore Tara Boothe scored 20 points and had six rebounds, but the Xavier women’s basketball team saw its six game winning streak come to an end with a 61-50 defeat to Temple on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center.
With today’s 20-point output, Boothe moved above 900 points in just her second season with the Musketeers (15-8, 7-5). She now has 908 career points.
Freshman Miranda Green, who earlier in the day was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, had seven points for Xavier while Adeola Olanrewaju had 10 points and six rebounds.
Candice Dupree was one of three Temple players to reach double figures as she scored 14 points and collected seven rebounds to pace the Owls (13-8, 9-1).
The Atlantic 10 East leading Owls opened the game with a 16-4 run over the first 4:43 on the strength of 6-6 shooting from the field.
Temple’s offense was fueled by 16 assists on its 26 field goals.
The defensive pressure of the Owls forced Xavier into 14 first half turnovers, and 17 in the game.
Xavier got as close as 13 at the 17:32 mark of the second half on a three-point play from Boothe, but the Musketeers were unable to contain Temple’s high-powered offense.
Temple shot 47.3 percent (26-55) from the field in the game, compared to 39.5 percent (17-43) for Xavier.
The Musketeers will return to action on Friday with a 7 p.m. contest at first place George Washington.
