CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's basketball team will play the second of back-to-back home games this week on Sunday afternoon when it welcomes St. Bonaventure to Cincinnati. Tip-off between the Musketeers and Bonnies is set for 2 p.m. Prior to the game, there will be Sunday Fun Day festivities in the auxiliary gym including games, prizes, inflatable and basketball!
About the Musketeers
Xavier (6-14, 0-6 A-10) is currently suffering through an eight-game losing streak, the team's longest losing streak of the season, after dropping a 66-49 loss to Saint Louis on Thursday. As a team, XU ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in defensive rebounds (27.2), third in rebounding defense (35.2) and defensive rebound percentage (.719) and fifth in rebounding margin (+3.3).
The Musketeers are led by senior Amber Gray who averages 10.5 ppg. while shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 76.8 percent from the line (8th A-10). Junior Shatyra Hawkes dishes out a team-best 3.6 apg. (9th A-10) and holds a 1.3 assist/turnover ratio (8th A-10) and senior Jessica Pachko grabs a team-best 6.6 rpg. (13th A-10) and shoots at a 50.9 clip. Junior Ashley Wanninger sinks 36.3 percent of her shots from behind the arc (8th A-10) and averages 2.1 3-point baskets per contest (6th A-10).
Scouting St. Bonaventure
St. Bonaventure (9-12, 2-4 A-10) has lost six of its last eight games including most recently a 64-57 decision at home against Charlotte on Wednesday. The Bonnies were led by Nyla Rueter with 15 points in the loss. SBU ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense (55.1) and fifth in free throw percentage (.714) and defensive rebound percentage (.678).
The Bonnies are led by Doris Ortega with 12.1 ppg. (13th A-10) and a team-second-best 5.9 rpg. while shooting 74.2 percent from the line (13th A-10) and dishing out 2.2 apg. Alaina Walker leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 6.0 per contest, shoots at a team-high .457 clip and tallies 1.3 spg.
The Musketeers and Bonnies have previously met 21 times with XU holding the 17-4 advantage in the all-time series. SBU picked up the win in the last meeting between the two programs, 66-48, last season but Xavier has won nine of the last 10 in the series and holds a perfect 9-0 record at home against the Bonnies.
Last Time Out
After a red-hot first half shooting 57.9 percent, the Musketeers cooled off in the second half falling behind the visiting Saint Louis Billikens and eventually dropped the 66-49 decision. Junior Ashley Wanninger and Shatyra Hawkes led the Musketeers with 12 points apiece as Hawkes dished out a game-high four assists on the night. Senior Amber Gray grabbed a team-high four rebounds on the night as XU was out-rebounded 32-16 by SLU. The Musketeers recorded 13 assists to 13 turnovers for the game.
