CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's basketball team is set to take on the visiting Fordham Rams in Atlantic 10 action Wednesday night. Tip-off between the Musketeers and Rams is set for 7 p.m. at Cintas Center.
About the Musketeers
Xavier (6-11, 0-3 A-10) is currently suffering through a five game losing streak after dropping a 67-55 loss at Charlotte on Sunday, the team's longest losing streak of the season. As a team, XU ranks in the top six teams in the Atlantic 10 in several categories: third in rebounding defense (35.6), fifth in rebounding margin (+3.4) and sixth in scoring offense (62.0), field goal percentage (.393), 3-point field goal percentage (.312) and rebounding offense (38.9).
The Musketeers are led by senior Amber Gray with 10.9 ppg. and a .743 free throw percentage (10th A-10). Junior Shatyra Hawkes dishes out a team-best 3.8 apg. (9th A-10) and boasts a 1.3 assist/turnover ratio (10th A-10). Sharp-shooter junior Ashley Wanninger sinks 2.2 3-point baskets per game (4th A-10) and holds a .373 3-point shooting percentage (5th A-10) while also averaging 35.1 mpg. (4th A-10).
Fordham (13-5, 3-0 A-10) is riding a five-game winning streak after picking up a 47-40 win over Richmond at home on Sunday. Two Rams scored in double figures, including Kristina King with a team-high 14 points. As a team, FU ranks first in the Atlantic 10 in free throw percentage (.749) and second in scoring defense (52.1).
The Rams are led by Marah Strickland with 14.1 ppg. (8th A-10) and Erin Rooney with 13.7 ppg. (9th A-10). Abigail Corning grabs a team-high 6.3 rpg. (18th A-10) while Rooney sinks 86.5 percent of her free throw shots and dishes out a team-best 3.1 apg. (12th A-10).
The Musketeers and Owls have previously met 21 times in the series between the two squads with XU holding the 19-2 advantage. Xavier has won 17 straight against Fordham including the 68-57 overtime win in the Bronx last season on Feb. 11, 2012.
