Senior Amber Gray leads the team with 11.1 points per game

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Xavier women's basketball team is in Charlotte, N.C., this weekend to square off against Atlantic 10 Conference foe Charlotte on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the 49ers' Halton Arena. This is the Musketeers' second-straight league road game and third A-10 contest of the season.
About the Musketeers
Xavier (6-10, 0-2 A-10) nearly overcame a 13-point, second-half deficit at Butler Thursday night but eventually fell, 67-71, to the Bulldogs. The Musketeers had three players score in double figures and shot 42.9 percent from long range. As a team, XU ranks among the top six teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference in several categories: third in rebounding offense (35.6), fifth in scoring offense (62.4) and rebounding margin (+3.9) and sixth in free throw percentage (.700), field goal percentage (.391), 3-point field goal percentage and rebounding offense (39.6).
The Musketeers are led by senior Amber Gray with 11.1 ppg. and a .743 free throw percentage (8th A-10). Junior Shatyra Hawkes dishes out a team-best 3.8 apg. (9th A-10) and boasts a 1.3 assist/turnover ratio (9th A-10). Sharp-shooter junior Ashley Wanninger sinks 2.2 3-point baskets per game (5th A-10) and holds a .365 3-point shooting percentage (9th A-10) while also averaging 34.9 mpg. (4th A-10).
Charlotte (12-4, 1-1 A-10) picked up the 53-42 win at Rhode Island on Wednesday as two 49ers posted double-doubles in the victory. The Niners struggled from 3-point land, shooting only 9.1 percent from behind the arc. Charlotte ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense (65.9), field goal percentage (.425), rebounding offense (43.1) and defense (33.9) and rebounding margin (+9.2).
The 49ers are led by Jennifer Hailey (14.6 ppg., 11.2 rpg.) and Amanda Dowe (11.1 ppg., 11.3 rpg.), both of whom average a double-double. Dowe's 11.3 boards per contest leads the league while Hailey's 11.2 rpg. ranks second. Ny Hammonds dished out a team- and conference-best 7.0 assists per game and holds a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio (2nd A-10).
The Musketeers and 49ers have met 12 times over the all-times series between the two programs with Xavier holding the 8-4 advantage. Charlotte snapped XU's six-game winning streak against the 49ers last season with its 58-54 win in Cintas Center on Jan. 7, 2012.

Xavier hit the road on Thursday for its first Atlantic 10 road game of the season, dropping a close 67-71 decision at Butler. Three Musketeers scored in double figures, including senior Amber Gray who narrowly missed the double-double with a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds. Junior Ashley Wanninger sank four of the seven 3-point shots she took on her way to 15 points while junior Shatyra Hawkes added 13 points to go with five rebounds, five steals and two assists.
