Junior Shatyra Hawkes leads the team and ranks third in the A-10 with 4.0 assists per game

CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's basketball team will kick off 2013 Saturday afternoon as it plays host to intra-state rival Ohio at Cintas Center. Kick-off between the Musketeers and Bobcats is set for 2 p.m. There will be an autograph session with players following the game.
About the Musketeers
Xavier (6-7) dropped a 54-45 decision at Virginia in the championship game of the Cavalier Classic Dec. 29. The Musketeers rank in the top eight teams in the Atlantic 10 in several categories including: second in defensive rebounds (27.8), fourth in rebounding defense (35.9), fifth in scoring offense (62.8) and rebounding margin (+3.7), sixth in free throw percentage (.702) and rebounding offense (39.6) and eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (.299).
XU is led offensively by senior Amber Gray who is averaging 10.5 ppg. and makes 74.5 percent of her shots from the charity stripe (8th A-10). Junior Shatyra Hawkes adds 10.2 ppg., dishes out a team-high 4.0 apg. (7th A-10) and holds a team-best 1.7 assist/turnover ratio (3rd A-10). Sophomore Lakeisha Crouch is the team's leading rebounder grabbing 6.8 boards per contest (17th A-10) while junior Ashley Wanninger is lethal from downtown averaging 2.2 3-point baskets per game (5th A-10) and a .364 3-point field goal percentage (8th A-10).
Ohio (4-7) has lost back-to-back games, including a 63-54 loss at LIU Brooklyn on Dec. 21 - the Bobcats last game heading into Saturday's contest. Erin Bailes led Ohio with 10 points against LIUB. As a team, the Bobcats rank second in the Mid-American Conference second in turnover margin (+3.0), third in free throw percentage (.712), fourth in steals (9.8) and fifth in blocks (3.1) and scoring defense (62.9).
The Bobcats are led by Kiyanna Black with 10.6 ppg. (17th MAC) and Alex'ie Baldwin with 6.5 rpg. 12th MAC). Ashley Fowler dishes out a team-high 3.5 apg. (7th MAC) and tallies a league-leading 2.7 steals per game as well.
The Musketeers and the Bobcats have previously met five times with Ohio holding the 4-1 advantage in the series. The all-time series between the two squads opened with an 80-60 Xavier win on Dec. 16, 1989 in Cincinnati. The most recent meeting was last season, an 80-75 double-overtime Bobcat win at the UNLV Duel in the Desert on Dec. 19.
