AKRON, Ohio - Rookie standout Ta'Shia Phillips notched her eighth double-double of the season and with 16 points and 12 boards and sophomore Amber Harris registered her 15th career double-double with a 16-point, 13-rebound effort to lead the Xavier University women's basketball team to a 84-59 victory over Akron on Friday evening at Rhodes Arena in the Rubber City.  With the win, Xavier improves to 7-4 on the year while the Zips slip to 5-7.

Ta'Shia Phillips' 16 points came on 8-of-10 shooting while Harris added three steals and a pair of assists.

The game marked the Xavier debuts of both junior Tudy Reed and sophomore April Phillips.  Reed scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting while April Phillips scored seven points, all of which came in a one-minute span in the second half.

Junior guard Jerri Taylor was the fourth Musketeer in double-figures with 13 points.

Xavier stretched its 16-point halftime lead to 25 when April Phillips put together a personal 7-0 run over a one-minute span to give XU a 67-42 lead with 10:50 remaining in regulation.

The Zips would make their last stand to the tune of a 9-0 run over the next 1:40 and closed the Musketeer edge to 16-points, 67-51, at the 9:10 mark.

However, XU would quash the Akron rally with a 13-1 rally over the next six-minutes to put the game away.  XU would lead by as many as 29 in the late stages of the contest.

XU out-rebounded the Zips by a 52-to-27 count and dominated in the paint, out-scoring Akron by a 48-to-16 count.  The Musketeers also held a decisive 23-to-7 edge in second-chance points.

Xavier took care of the ball on Friday, committing only 11 turnovers while dishing-out 20 assists.  Sophomore guard Alesia Barringer was solid at the point, dishing-out five assists against zero turnovers.  Freshman guard Special Jennings was equally as effective as she dropped a career-high eight dimes and turned it over only once.

The Musketeers stormed out of the gate and seized a 33-18 lead at the 9:30 mark after freshman Aly Byorick and Hester buried back-to-back 3-pointers.  Akron would battle back though and cut the lead to nine points, 34-25, after Keyla Snowden connected on a long-ball with six-minutes to go.

XU would nip the Zips rally though and charged out to an 8-1 run over the final six-minutes of the first stanza and took a 43-26 lead at intermission.

Ta'Shia Phillips scored 10 points and was two caroms shy of a first-half double-double.  Harris scored nine points in the first 20-minutes while Hester and Taylor each added eight.

Xavier will return to action on Sunday, December 30 when the team takes on Mercer.  Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Cintas Center.
