Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three-time Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection Ta'Shia Phillips recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and tied her own school record with 20 rebounds but it was not enough as the Xavier University women's basketball team dropped a 67-45 decision at Louisville on Sunday afternoon.  With the loss, XU slips to 5-4 on the year while the Cardinals improve to 5-2.

Junior guard Jerri Taylor was the only other Musketeer in double-figures.  The South Bend, Ind. Native score 19 points on 6-of-17 shooting, marking the sixth time Taylor has notched double-digit scoring.

Taylor drained a 3-pointer in the second minute of the second half to cut the deficit to nine but the Cardinals took control of the contest with a 14-3 run over the next 5:20 to open up a 20-point lead at the 13-minute mark.

Louisville would stretch the lead to as many as 28 points.

The Musketeers were one shy of a school-record with 29 turnovers and Louisville took advantage, converting the miscues into 28 points.  Xavier out-rebounded the Cardinals by a 41-to-39 count but U of L held a commanding 36-to-20 lead in points in the paint.

XU was also chilly 5-of-15 from the free throw line, while Louisville was a solid 9-of-11 from the charity stripe.

The first 7:20 of the first half included three ties and three lead changes, the last tie coming at the 12:40 mark after Phillips converted on a put-back to knot the score up 10-10.

Louisville would answer with a 7-0 run over the next 3:20 to take a 17-10 lead at the 9:20 mark.

XU would not go away though and closed to within two points, 21-19, after Phillips hit another put-back basket at with 3:50 to go.  That rebound was one of Phillips' 14 in the first session.

U of L would close out the half on a 10-2 run and seized a 31-21 lead at the break.  Cardinal All-American Angel McCoughtry, who is also the nation's leading scorer, scored eight points in the final 2:50 of the first half.

Xavier will be back in action on Sunday, December 16 when the team returns home to take on East Tennessee.  Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Cintas Center.
