CINCINNATI - Senior Forward Tara Boothe poured in a game-high 30 points to lead the Xavier women's basketball team over Cincinnati 87-60 on Wednesday evening at Cintas Center. Three other Musketeers also scored in double-figures as XU improved to 4-1 while Cincinnati suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 3-1.

The first half was an exercise in perfection for Tara Boothe, shooting 9-9 from the field, 3-3 at the charity stripe, and committing zero turnovers. She missed only one shot all night at 12-13 shooting. Boothe's 30 total points included a lay-up with 6:38 left in the second half on which she eclipsed Taru Tuukkanen's second place all-time point total of 1,785 points.

XU continued a trend of explosive starts against the Bearcats. The Musketeers scored the first 14 points of the game, eventually taking a commanding 20-3 lead by the 14:30 mark. Last season XU scored the game's first five points, leading to a 17-4 lead.

Wednesday night's performance outdid even that of last year as the Musketeers were perfect from the field on their first 12 shots, leading to a first half field-goal percentage of 70.4.

Four of XU's five starters were in double-figures in the cross-town rivalry. Michele Miller added 15 points and led the team in free-throw percentage, going 5-6 from the line. Suntana Granderson finished with 14 points and three assists. Kristy Wallner included 10 points and led the team with seven rebounds.

Miranda Green directed XU's offense smoothly with a game-high six assists and only one turnover. The Bearcats finished with a crippling team total of 20 turnovers compared to Xavier's seven.

While Xavier came off the starting line with its offense in high gear, the Bearcats struggled to find their rhythm, missing their first nine shot attempts and falling to a 33.3 first half shooting percentage. First half turnovers also added to Cincinnati's slow start as the Bearcats lost possession twelve times compared to Xavier's three.

XU will return to the floor when the team travels to Auburn to face the Tigers on Friday, December 2. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. EST at Auburn's Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
