Head Coach Kevin McGuff
On the win

“This is a great win for us.  Kansas has an excellent basketball team and I am really proud of our team’s resilience down the stretch.  We showed a lot of heart and a lot of character.”

On Kansas’ hot first-half shooting and adjustments XU made in the second half

“They executed really well on offense and have good players.  They made us pay when we made mistakes on defense.  I thought the key to the game was when we tightened up on defense and really attacked the glass hard in the second half.  Ultimately our rebounding advantage allowed us to win the game.”

On Xavier star Amber Harris

“She gets better each week and is such a unique player.  Obviously we are a much better team with her than without her.”

On Kansas star Danielle McCray

“Danielle McCray is one of the best players in the country and she showed that tonight.  She is very tough to match up against and she will help Kansas have a great year.”

Junior center Ta’Shia Phillips
On how KU shot so well from the field in the first half

“We had a couple miscommunications defensively in the first half because we weren’t talking like we needed to be.  I felt like that was what really hurt us and allowed them to light it up in the first half.”

On  the adjustments XU made to neutralize KU’s offense

“We talked in the locker room about being more aggressive on offense and on defense.  We knew that defense and rebounding were going to win this game for us so we just really tried to focus on rebounding and defense because we know that if we do those things well we can do whatever we want on offense.”

On the state of the XU women’s basketball team

“So far so good but there is always room for improvement.  We have to keep working talking on defense, working together and staying together through adversity.”

R-Junior Amber Harris
On the team

“I think we are coming together well but there are some things we have to work on.  We will keep working hard in practice every day and I know we are going to keep on getting better and better.”

On Kansas and the adjustments XU made

“They were hot in the first half.  We were contesting a lot of shots but they were hitting them.  We were able to adjust at halftime by communicating better defensively and that is why they were only able to shoot 36 percent in the second half.”

On how she feels after sitting out all of last season

“I feel good.  I’m really glad we won.”
