CINCINNATI - Senior Ashley Wanninger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain HS) finished with a game-high 17 points to lead the Xavier women's basketball team to a 69-39 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center.
Xavier's defensive effort was solid all afternoon. The 39-point output by UAPB marks the first time the Blue and White have held an opponent to 39 or fewer points since Dec. 6, 2009, when they defeated Cincinnati, 69-38.
With the win, XU picked up their second consecutive win and improved to 2-1 overall, while the Golden Lions fell to 1-3 on the season. The win also gave Blue and White their 22nd straight victory in home openers. Since Cintas Center opened prior to the 2000-01 season, the Musketeers are a perfect 14-0 in home openers.

Leading 18-10, Xavier employed another huge run (15-4), capped by a Hawkes layup, to grab a 33-14 advantage with less than six minutes left in the period. The teams would trade buckets over the final five minutes of the half and XU took a 36-18 lead into the intermission.

Xavier opened the second half on a 14-2 spurt, highlighted by five points from both Glover and Zantt, to take a 50-20 advantage.
The Musketeers would cruise the rest of the way and went on to pick up the 69-39 non-conference victory.
