@Xavier_WBB Gets Tripped Up At Georgetown, 66-58

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sophomore Briana Glover (Mason, Ohio/Mason) scored a team-high 15 points as the Xavier women's basketball team fell at Georgetown, 66-58, in BIG EAST Conference action at McDonough Arena on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss the Musketeers fall to 8-16 overall and 3-9 in BIG EAST play, while the Hoyas improve to 8-16 on the season and 2-10 in conference.
The Blue and White, who entered the contest ranked fourth in the conference play in three-point field goals per game (7.2) in BIG EAST games, knocked down 10-of-32 shots from behind the arc.
Glover made 7-of-12 shots from the floor to finish with 15 points. She also added four boards, one block and an assist in 33 minutes. Sophomore Aliyah Zantt (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg HS) finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four steals. Senior Shatyra Hawkes (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) chipped in with 11 points and five assists, while classmate Ashley Wanninger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) added eight points, five boards, four helpers and a pair of steals.
Andrea White's 25 points and 14 rebounds led the Hoyas, who outrebounded XU 53-29. Natalie Butler added 16 points and 17 rebounds for Georgetown.
A layup from freshman Maddison Blackwell (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln HS) gave Xavier a quick 2-0 lead just 39 seconds into the period. Georgetown responded with a 17-4 run to take a 17-6 lead with 11:29 left in the opening 20 minutes.
A triple from Wanninger and layups from Kayla Davis (Brampton, Ontario/St. Marguerite d'Youville) and Zantt cut the Hoyas lead down to six points (19-13) with 8:26 left on the clock. Xavier continued to battle and used an 8-4 spurt, capped by a Hawkes trey ball, to cut the deficit to 23-21 (4:50).
The Blue and White, capped by a huge corner triple from Zantt at the halftime buzzer, outscored the Hoyas 9-6 over the final four minutes to grab a 30-29 advantage heading into the locker room at the intermission.
Xavier shot 12-of-31 (38.7 percent) from the field and 6-of-16 (37.5 percent) from behind the arc in the opening 20 minutes, while the Hoyas knocked down 38.2 percent (13-of-34) of their field goal attempts. Xavier forced GU into nine first half turnovers and scored 10 points of off Georgetown's miscues.
Georgetown came out on a mission to open the second half. The Hoyas fought hard and were able to grab an 11-point lead (59-48) with 4:15 remaining in regulation. Huge back-to-back three-pointers from Hawkes and Zantt cut into Georgetown's lead (59-54) with just 3:16 left in regulation.
Xavier was able to get within four points (62-58) with 43 seconds left, but were unable to get any closer and fell to GU 66-58.
The Blue and White will have a few days off before hitting the road for another road contest. XU will head to Milwaukee, Wis. to face Marquette on Feb. 15 (2:00 p.m. ET).
