CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's basketball team fell to the Butler Bulldogs Saturday evening, 68-54, at Cintas Center. Sophomores Briana Glover and Aliyah Zantt combined for 26 points in the effort.

With the loss the Musketeers fall to 8-14 overall and 3-7 in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs improve their record to 10-11 on the season and 5-5 in conference.

Sophomore Briana Glover (Mason, Ohio/Mason) had a team-high 16 points and also grabbed four boards. Fellow sophomore Aliyah Zantt (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg HS) chipped in with 10 points, including two three-pointers, and four boards.

Senior guard Shatyra Hawkes (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) scored 13 points and also had three rebounds and a team-high five assists. Freshman Leah Schaefer (Alexandria, Ky./Highlands HS) came close to a double-double, finishing with eight points and nine rebounds.

Butler jumped out to an 8-3 lead early in the half of solid perimeter shooting. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to nine on a jumper with 11:14 to go, but Xavier would not go away. The Musketeers went on a 10-2 run and cut the lead to one on a Hawkes three-pointer with 7:43 remaining. A few plays later, Glover knotted the game up with a trey of her own. Butler retook the lead and scored an old-fashioned three-pointer to go up 26-21 with 3:05 left in the first half. They kept that five-point lead and headed into the locker room, up 30-25. The Bulldogs nailed five shots from behind the arc in the first half.

Butler came out of the gate, starting hot again. The Bulldogs went on a 16-3 run to open the half. The run would give Butler its largest lead of the night at 18. XU was 2-of-7 from the field during that span, which lasted 5:05. However, the Musketeers were not done yet. Xavier hit back-to-back threes from Wanninger and Zantt en route to a 13-2 run to cut the Bulldogs lead to 8. But that would be the closest that Xavier would get to Butler's lead. Butler ended the game on a 6-0 run to take home a 68-54 victory.

Xavier finished the night 19-of-63 (30.2 percent) from the field and 6-of-27 (22.2 percent) from beyond the arc. Seton Hall had a 39.3 field goal percentage (24-of-61) including shooting 8-of-17 (47.1 percent) from long distance.

Butler won the rebounding battle, 47-39. Xavier managed 11 assists on 19 made shots, and also had 11 second chance points.

The Bulldogs were led by Daress McClung, Liz Stratman, Haley Howard and Mandy McDivitt. McClung scored a game-high 21 points and had five rebounds. Stratman recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Howard and McDivitt contributed in the win, scoring 12 points each.

XU's next game will be a home matchup with the DePaul Blue Demons at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, February 5.
