CINCINNATI - Senior All-American candidate Tara Boothe poured in a game-high 30 points and broke XU's all-time scoring record but it was not enough as the Xavier University women's basketball team dropped a 67-62 decision to No. 21 Temple on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center. With the win, XU slips to 12-6 on the season and 3-4 in Atlantic 10 play. Temple improves to 14-4, 5-1. (photos by Doug Cochran, Sports Focus Media)

Boothe broke Jo Ann Osterkamp's school scoring record in fashion as her 30-points came on 9-of-19 shooting including 2-of-4 from deep. Boothe scored her 12th point of the day and 2,037th of her career on one of her ten free throws with 18:53 remaining in the second half.

The 30-point effort marked the eighth time in her career Boothe has scored 30 or more points and she also moved into second place on XU's all-time rebounding list with 874 career boards.

Xavier took a commanding 52-43 lead with 10:30 remaining in the second half when Michele Miller hit a baseline jumper. However, XU went cold and the Owls heated up, taking the lead for good when Candice Dupree hit her second career 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down and 6:10 to go.

Dupree's long-ball came in the midst of a 20-6 run, which the Owls used to take a 63-58 lead with 3:40 to go. Boothe shrunk the lead to three points with two-minutes remaining but XU committed a pair of turnovers in the last two minutes and was unable to catch the Owls.

Boothe was XU's only double-digit scorer as three Musketeers scored seven points on the afternoon. Senior Kristy Wallner, sophomore Michele Miller, and freshman Candyce Bingham each netted seven for Xavier.

The Musketeers were out-rebounded 33-to-31 and allowed the Owls to shoot a sizzling 57.1 percent from the floor in the second half.

Dupree led the way for Temple with 22 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots.

Xavier stormed out of the gate and took a 14-8 lead when Michele Miller hit a pair of free throws with 13:50 to go in the first half. Temple would answer though and charged out to a 19-15 lead on the strength of an 11-1 run just 6:30 later.

The game was back-and-forth until Miranda Green drained a 3-pointer at the 2:30 mark, giving Xavier a 29-28 lead at the 2:30 mark. XU would extend its lead to 34-29 at intermission when Bingham drilled a floater as the first half expired.

Xavier will return to action on Friday, January 27 when the team travels to Olean, N.Y. to take on St. Bonaventure. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Empire State.
