Phillips posted her 11th double-double of the season

CINCINNATI- Four Musketeers scored in double figures as No. 8/8 Xavier defeated Massachusetts 81-55, Sunday afternoon at the Mullins Center. Redshirt senior Amber Harris, who was celebrating her birthday, tied her career high in rebounds, 18, and finished with 19 points for her ninth double-double of the season. For the second game in a row, senior Ta’Shia Phillips had a double-double (her 11th this season) by halftime, finishing with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Xavier (14-2, 3-0 A-10) have now won 31 of its last 32 regular season conference games, including 19 of 20 from the road. With the loss, UMass drops to 5-13 on the season and 1-2 in the A-10. XU now holds a 18-2 advantage in the series.
At intermission, the score stood at 42-27 with the Musketeers holding the advantage. XU shot 39.0% from the field in the first half, while the Minutewomen fired 34.5%.
UMass was held scoreless for the first five minutes of the second half, during which Xavier rattled off 16 points to put the game away. The Minutewomen, one of the most dangerous teams from downtown, shot 34.8% from outside. The Musketeers matched up well in that department, going 34.6%. XU ended the game with a .388 field goal percentage, while UMass went 31.7%.
The Musketeers dominated the boards, outrebounding the Minutewomen 63-36. Ten of the 12 Musketeers who saw action grabbed a rebound.
The Minutewomen were led by senior guard Cerie Mosgrove who was the game’s leading scorer with 20. Mosgrove, who in third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, went 6-of-10 from downtown. Jasmine Watson added 15 points for UMass.
The Musketeers return home for a game against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Cintas Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
