CINCINNATI- The Xavier women's basketball dropped its first conference game of the season Saturday 58-54 to the Charlotte 49ers. Senior guard Tyeasha Moss led all Xavier scorers with 15 points, five assists, and eight rebounds.

XU drops to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in the Atlantic 10 conference. Charlotte improves to 9-6 and 1-0 in A-10. XU is now 8-9 in A-10 openers, 1-2 against Charlotte in conference openers, and 3-3 in home conference openers.

Three Musketeers scored in double-digits, Moss with 15, juniorJessica Pachko with 13, and juniorAmber Gray with 10 points. Pachko earned a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Shatyra Hawkes added eight points and five assists in the loss.

XU ran off an 8-0 run midway through the second half to grab a 44-40 lead. The Musketeers forced the 49ers to take several unwanted shots to grab the lead. Charlotte responded with a 6-0 run of its own to even it up at 44 with 7:18 left in the game.

Jai Forney of Charlotte was fouled off of an offensive rebound with 31 seconds left in the game. Forney made both of her free throws to make it a two possession game and the 49ers sealed the victory by making six free throws in the closing minute.

The Musketeers allowed a season-low 58 points off of 38.9 percent shooting (21-of-54). XU forced 15 turnovers.

Charlotte took a 28-25 halftime lead over Xavier. Charlotte grabbed the edge with less than two minutes left to play in the half off a mid-range jumper by Jennifer Hailey.

Moss had a team-high at half with nine points and three assists. Pachko reeled in five boards in the first period. Every Musketeer that saw the court recorded at least one rebound giving XU 34 for the night.



XU did a nice job protecting the ball by only losing five turnovers and dished out seven assists. XU's stingy defense led to seven 49er turnovers in the first half.

Charlotte was led by Gabby Tyler with 10 points and 12 rebounds along with Jennifer Hailey with 10 points.
