Amber Stocks-Whitford enters her fourth season as an assistant coach. Stocks-Whitford has helped coach schools to an NCAA appearance in five out of the last eight years. A former rival of Xavier's while a player at Cincinnati, she joined Xavier shortly after head coach Kevin McGuff was hired in June 2002. "Amber is a bright young coach with an excellent future," McGuff said. "She is very energetic and is a hard worker. Her experience with successful programs allows her to provide great insights into our own program." Stocks-Whitford joined Xavier after working for two years at the University of Tennessee. In 2001-02, she served as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Lady Vols, where she worked closely with Pat Summitt on the daily operations of the program. During the 2000-01 season, Stocks-Whitford served as a Graduate Assistant for the Lady Vols, working primarily on their recruiting effort. With Stocks-Whitford on the staff, Tennessee won two regular season SEC Championships, and went to the 2002 Final Four. Stocks-Whitford spent one year at the University of Notre Dame as a strength and conditioning intern. While with the Irish, she oversaw the strength and conditioning programs for seven varsity sports and assisted with all other Notre Dame sports, including men's and women's basketball. Stocks-Whitford was a student assistant strength and conditioning coach both at UC and XU during her undergraduate career. While at UC, Stocks-Whitford was a four-time Bearcat Scholar Honoree and was a three-time winner of the team's Best Defensive Player Award. Stocks-Whitford, who graduated from UC in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in health promotion and education: exercise and fitness, also earned two letters in track and field. She was an All-Conference track athlete and set two school records. The 27-year old Stocks-Whitford and her husband James reside in Cincinnati. |
