CINCINNATI -- The Xavier men's tennis team added two new signees and the Musketeer women added one signee in the 2010 fall signing period, head coach Eric Toth announced Friday.
Four-star recruit Lizzie Oosterbaan will join the XU women's tennis team during the 2011-12 campaign. A Kalamazoo, Mich. Native, Oosterbaan was ranked 172 nationally and 10th in the state of Michigan by TennisRecruiting.net.
"Lizzie is a wonderful fit for our program," said Toth. "She is a solid student and has a tremendous upside in her ability to compete at the Division I level. Beyond that, she is a tremendous person. Lizzie will fit in well with the existing members of the team next year and will be quite an asset to our program."
Freddy Abunku and Michael Moe will hit the courts for XU next season. Abunku, a West Chester, Ohio native, was a star netter at Lakota East High School. He was ranked a three-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net and was ranked 228 nationally and No. 9 in Ohio.
Moe hails from Carmel, Ind. where he earned numerous accolades at Guerin Catholic High School. TennisRecruiting.net has ranked him a three-star recruit, 222 nationally, and No. 8 in Indiana. Last season he finished third in the Indiana State High School Tournament.
"We feel fortunate to get two established players out of the exceptionally deep Midwest section in Freddy and Michael," said Toth. "They will both fit in well with the guys in our program. I expect both of them to acclimate themselves quickly to Division I tennis and be impact players starting next fall."
