CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's tennis team hopes to continue its strong start to the fall schedule when it visits West Lafayette, Ind. this weekend for the Third Annual Purdue Invitational.

The three-day, flighted tournament begins on Friday and includes 13 other teams in addition to Xavier. Three flights of singles draws and two flights of doubles draws will run from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

Three of the schools (Wisconsin-Green Bay, Cleveland State and Western Michigan) that Xavier faced at last weekend's Jack Vredevelt Invite will be competing this weekend. Other teams include Purdue, Iowa, Arkansas, DePaul, Butler, IPFW, IUPUI, Marquette, Toledo and Valparaiso.

The Musketeers turned in a strong performance in the fall opener last weekend at the Jack Vredevelt Invite. In singles play Xavier went 28-11 and lost only two of their 15 doubles match. Freshman Zach Mueck led the way with a 4-0 singles record.

Also playing this weekend for the Musketeers will be seniors Patrick Bandy and Philip Diaz, sophomores Michael Moe and Freddy Abunku, and freshmen Brian Carman, Adam Krull and Mueck.

Xavier will not send senior Brandon MacDonald and juniors Mesa Mei and Jimmy Roebker to this tournament. The trio will be competing in next weekend's All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla.
