CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's tennis team will open its 2012 fall season this weekend at the Jack Vredevelt Invite hosted by Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich.
The Musketeers will be one of the six schools competing in the three day tournament beginning Sept. 14. The other schools participating include host Western Michigan, Cleveland State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Illinois State.
There will be eight singles flights and four doubles flights at the tournament. A point system will be used to determine championships for both singles and doubles play. Teams will have the ability to change doubles partners, but it will be the pair with the highest total that will be named champion.
Last season the Musketeers' combination of Mesa Mei and Michael Moe won a doubles flight, while two other pairs advanced deep into their draws. Philip Diaz was the only Xavier athlete to win a singles draw. He earned the top spot in the Volunteer main draw consolation flight.
