CINCINNATI- Xavier University men's tennis assistant coach Doug Matthews ('09) added another pair of titles to his long list of achievements. Matthews tacked on his 11th and 12th Thomas E. Price Cincinnati Metropolitan Tennis Tournament championships Sunday at Lunken Airport Playfield. For the fourth- straight year, Matthews teamed up with former Michigan State player John Allare to capture the men's doubles title.

Partnering with former XU standout and wife, Kara (Courtney) Matthews, the duo captured their fourth- consecutive mixed doubles trophy in Sunday's championship nightcap. The title gave Matthews his 12th crown and one he will most remember.

"For Kara to be able to play like that seven months after giving birth to our first daughter is amazing," said Matthews. "The toughest part about it is, the older you get, the less you're used to playing with nerves. They creep in more now."

Matthews was a member of the Xavier men's tennis team from 2005 to 2009 where he earned his way into the record books after posting a career record of 150-99, landing him second all-time at Xavier. Additionally, Matthews earned four-straight Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team awards, Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in 2006 and was named the Atlantic 10's Most Outstanding Performer in 2008 and 2009.
