CINCINNATI - Xavier University men's and women's tennis teams hosted their annual Pro-Am tournament sponsored by Midwest Sports on June 8. The field of 32 teams featured Xavier alumni, players and tennis players from around the Cincinnati area. The Midwest Sports/Xavier Tennis Pro-Am was played at Lunken Play Fields.
Following the Pro-Am, players and their guests gathered at Cintas Center on the campus of Xavier University for a dinner which included live and silent auctions. Items such as a weekend package to the U.S. Open in New York City, World Series tickets and vacations in Siesta Key, Hilton Head and Long Boat Key, Fla. were among the many packages featured.
"Our Men's and Women's programs are grateful for the continued support of our loyal friends of Xavier Tennis," stated tennis head coach Eric Toth. "Their generosity makes it possible for our student-athletes to have a most worthwhile experience going to school and competing for our University."
The day also included many special moments remembering Coach Jim Brockhoff, who passed away a week prior to the event. A photo of Coach Brockhoff was put at one of the referee stands on the Lunken courts and the guests took a moment to remember Coach Brockhoff's many accomplishments during his outstanding career at Xavier at the dinner later that evening.
"We are very saddened of the loss of Coach Brockhoff," said Toth. "He drove this effort since its inception and not having him there this year left quite a void the day of our event.
"The good news is that Coach left a healthy blueprint for this annual event which helped us raise close to $40,000 this year and will put us in good position to raise similar or even more monies in future years. Coach Brockhoff leaves a lasting legacy to the Xavier Tennis programs where his impact will benefit current and future student-athletes for years to come."
