Toth Earns Third A-10 Coach Of The Year, Three Musketeers Honored
May 4, 2010
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Xavier tennis head coach Eric Toth was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the third straight year Tuesday. Senior Chris Herrlinger was named First Team All-Conference while fellow senior JT Torbeck, junior Bobby Deye, and sophomore Richard Canelas were named Second Team All-Conference.
Toth earned his third A-10 Coach of the Year honor in as many seasons after second-seeded Xavier captured its third-straight A-10 Championship with wins over St. Bonaventure (4-3), Duquesne (4-1) and George Washington (4-3). After serving as an assistant coach at Xavier for 10 seasons, Toth has guided the Musketeers to its first-ever A-10 titles and subsequent NCAA berths in his three seasons as head coach.
Herrlinger finished the 2010 campaign with an even 12-12 singles record and a 15-7 mark in doubles action. He has been a leader for XU this season, playing all of his singles matches in the No. 1 slot.
Torbeck has provided crucial wins in doubles play as well as singles action this season. He has won six straight singles matches including three in a row at the A-10 tournament. He is currently 15-8 in singles play this season.
Deye missed the first half of the season due to an injury but roared back with six consecutive singles wins to close out the season. Three of Deye's last six wins were match-clinching wins at the Atlantic 10 tournament.
Canelas was solid in the second position for XU in 2010. He currently holds a 9-15 record with all of his matches coming in the No. 2 position.
Xavier will be playing in its third consecutive NCAA tournament Friday. The draw for the NCAA tourney will be Tuesday, May 4, at 5 p.m. on ESPN News.
