The Coaching staff of the Xavier men's tennis team held its annual tennis banquet on May 1st to honor a few of its 2013-14 squad. Among the many individual team awards distributed at the event, Jimmy Roebker, Zach Mueck and Freddy Abunku earned some of the most prestigious.
Roebker, a senior, was selected to receive the Jim Brockhoff award, which is annually awarded in honor of the late Coach at Xavier from 1962-2007 to the player each season that best provides their team with competing with a fighting spirit, displaying tremendous sportsmanship and is the best overall teammate for the given year. Mary Brockhoff, the widow of Jim Brockhoff, and son Brian Brockhoff presented the prestigious award to Roebker.
Rising junior Mueck was awarded Team Most Valuable Player for outstanding play all season, posting a 16-8 overall record in singles competition and 14-11 in doubles competition, while exhibiting strong leadership characteristics. Mueck was also selected to be team captain for the 2014-15 fall and spring seasons.
A junior this year, Abunku provided the team with energy all season and was also selected to be a team captain for the 2014-15 seasons. Abunku tallied an overall record of 8-6 in singles competition this spring season.
