CINCINNATI - The seeding for the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship was announced on Tuesday and Xavier has earned the No. 4 seed for the tournament that begins on Thursday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
The Musketeers finished the regular season with an 18-4 overall record and will face Dayton in a first round match that begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Xavier will face Dayton (2-17) for the second time this spring. The Musketeers defeated the Flyers, 7-0, in the previous meeting on March 9 in Dayton.
Leading the Musketeers into battle will be a bevy of experienced upperclassmen sprinkled with freshman talent.
Jimmy Roebker and Mesa Mei form a tough one-two at the top of the singles lineup as well as pairing together in doubles play. Roebker is 15-6 at the No. 1 singles position and Mei owns a 16-5 record at No. 2 singles. As a tandem the two have gone 14-3 in doubles matches this year after beginning the season nationally ranked.
Zach Mueck, Brandon MacDonald and Adam Krull each have 18 singles wins a piece this spring for the Musketeers. Freddy Abunku, Patrick Bandy and Michael Moe have rotated in the No. 6 singles position and combined are 14-8 in dual matches.
As a team the Musketeers are 102-30 (77.3 percent) in singles matches during the spring and 46-2 against conference opponents.
In addition to the duo of Roebker and Mei, expect the Musketeers to send Bandy and Philip Diaz to the court. Playing together the two have produced a 16-3 record. The final doubles team could be any combination of Moe, Mueck, Krull and MacDonald.
In dual doubles matches the Musketeers are 46-13 (78.0 percent) and have gone 18-3 against league foes.
VCU earned the top seed in its first year in the league. George Washington is slotted as the No. 2 seed and Charlotte was awarded the third seed.
If Xavier advances it will play the winner of the No.5 Duquesne-No. 12 St. Bonaventure match.
