Men's Tennis Advances to A-10 Semis

The Xavier men's tennis team downed Duquesne 4-2 on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament in Pittsburgh.

The third-seeded Musketeers will take on No. 2 seed George Washington on Saturday for the right to play in Sunday's finals.

Xavier's three through six singles players all picked up wins while the Musketeers swept the doubles to beat the Dukes.

In the No. 3 spot, junior Brent Lehring (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) used a third-set bagel to beat Duquesne's Ryan Moseley 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.

Senior Aaron Bauer (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) also had strong third set, winning his match 6-7 (4), 6-3, 5-1 before the match was stopped.

No. 5 Ryan Potts (Brookfield, Wis./Marquette) and No. 6 Scott Triplett (Goshen, Ky./St. Xavier) both earned straight sets victories. Potts won his match 6-2, 6-2; and Triplett was victorious 7-6 (4), 6-3.

XU's top two singles players, Rob Bakker (The Netherlands) and Matthew Thinnes (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) fell in straight sets in their matches.

Lehring teamed with Brad Meadors (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) to win the No. 1 doubles match 8-3.

Thinnes and Bauer won No. 2 doubles 8-5 and Bakker teamed with Triplett to post an 8-4 win in No. 3 doubles.

This marks the second year in a row and the third time in seven years that Xavier has advanced to the A-10 semifinals.
