PHILADELPHIA - Xavier University freshman men's tennis player Doug Matthews has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, it was announced by the Conference office on Monday afternoon. The honor for the freshman comes after Xavier's 5-2 defeat of Dayton on Feb. 21.

Matthews, a freshman from Maineville, Ohio, recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over UD's Rex Cabrera and partnered with Rob Simpson at No. 1 doubles for an 8-4 defeat of Cabrera and James O'Connell. Matthews is now 13-9 overall in singles and is in 10-9 in doubles action.

The Xavier men's tennis team will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 28, when the Musketeers open up their spring break trip at Charlotte.
