CINCINNATI - Freshman men's tennis player J.T. Torbeck was honored by the Atlantic 10 Conference on Monday as his sport's Rookie of the Week. Torbeck, from nearby St. Xavier High School, posted four wins over the weekend in matches against Youngstown State and Cleveland State.

The freshman went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles play as the Musketeers (2-5) blanked YSU 7-0 and were downed by CSU 4-3. He earned a 6-2, 6-2 fifth singles win and an 8-6 second doubles win against the Penguins on Feb. 10. Torbeck followed that with a 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) fourth singles thriller and an 8-5 second doubles win against the Vikings the next day. He teamed with sophomore Ra'ees Ismail for both doubles matches.

In all, XU and CSU played six tiebreakers in a 4-3 Musketeers defeat. He was the only Xavier player to record four wins this past weekend.

Xavier is back in action this week with a match at IPFW on Wednesday at Noon. The team then returns home to host George Washington in its A-10 opener on Friday at the Eastern Hills Tennis Club at 7 p.m.
