Musketeers Defeated 7-0 by Blue Demons
CINCINNATI – The Xavier men’s tennis team fell to 3-2 on the season as the Musketeers were defeated 7-0 by Blue Demons of DePaul (3-3) on Saturday afternoon at the Mercy HealthPlex at Fairfield.
Xavier picked up its lone win of the day at third doubles as Adam Shaeffer and Rustin Reys made their debut as a team. Shaeffer and Reys recorded an 8-3 win over DePaul’s Will Wang and Gabe Inchauste. At No. 1, Justin Yeager and Rob Simpson were defeated 8-2 by Mark Henderson and Sam Davidson. In the second position, DePaul’s Eric Huffman and Robert Kotroczo picked up an 8-3 win over XU’s JR Randall and Kevin Trapp.
At No. 1 singles, Randall fell 6-4, 6-4 to Henderson while Jeremy Miller was defeated by Kotroczo at No. 2, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. In the third position, Yeager won the first set in the tiebreak but could not knock off Davidson who took the second and third sets for a 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-4 win. At No. 4, Simpson fell in straight sets to Wang, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Brian Schubert lost a tight match to Komar at the fifth spot (7-6 (4), 7-5) and Adam Shaeffer was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Inchauste at No. 6.
The Musketeers will return to the courts on Saturday, February 5, when the Musketeers take on Buffalo. The match will be played at St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y.
