CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's tennis team has a busy upcoming weekend as it hosts Cleveland State on Friday before making the short trip to face IUPUI on Sunday.
The Musketeers (0-1) have already played a match this year but will host their first event of the season when the Vikings make a visit to Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club for a match that will begin at 7 p.m. Xavier faces the Jaguars at the West Indy Racquet Club at 5 p.m.
Xavier's first match was against fourth-ranked Ohio State on Wednesday. The Musketeers lost the match by a 6-1 decision with junior Mesa Mei picking up the lone point for his squad. Mei's straight-set victory against the Buckeyes came against the number two singles player.
Junior Jimmy Roebker fared well against the country's top singles player but eventually dropped his decision. Roebker and Mei along with a supporting cast that includes seniors Brandon MacDonald and Philip Diaz will need to be on top of their games this weekend as the Musketeers hunt for two early season victories.
Xavier will be looking to avenge last year's loss to Cleveland State in what has been a recent back-and-forth battle between the programs. The match against the Musketeers will be IUPUI's third of the season. They have losses against Toledo and Purdue and will take on SIU-Edwardsville on Friday.
