CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's tennis team returns to the court after nearly a three-month hiatus and opens up the 2013 schedule when it visits No. 4 Ohio State on Wednesday for the first dual match of the year.
The match begins at 6 p.m. at the Varsity Indoor Tennis Center and will have live video and stats.
The Musketeers return all but two players from last year's team that finished as the Atlantic 10 runner up for the second-straight season. Among the returning players are juniors Jimmy Roebker and Mesa Mei and senior Brandon MacDonald. The trio combined to post a 50-18 singles record in dual matches last season and helped Xavier finish with a 15-9 record.
Also returning from last year's squad are sophomores Freddy Abunku and Michael Moe, junior Philip Diaz and redshirt senior Patrick Bandy. There are five freshmen joining the squad this year including Zach Mueck who went 9-4 in the fall.
Mei and Roebker will most likely be paired at doubles after receiving the No. 55 national ranking in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association doubles poll.
In the fall tournament season the Musketeers racked up a 73-45 (61.9 percent) record and 27-13 mark in doubles matches. Mei recorded a team-best 10 singles victories and Moe was a part of nine doubles wins.
