Men's Tennis Sees Great Success at Regionals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Xavier's men's tennis team competed very well at the USTA/ITA regional championships on Friday. The Musketeers finished singles play with a 4-1 record, and doubles with a 2-3 record.

In singles play, Michael Moe, Brandon MacDonald, Mesa Mei, and Zach Mueck all won their opening matches and advanced to the second round of play tomorrow. The only singles casualty of the day was Adam Krull, who lost in three sets. Jimmy Roebker earned a seed and a subsequent bye and did not play a first round match.

Doubles play featured three different Musketeer tandems. Brandon MacDonald and Zach Mueck teamed up to win their first two matches. The first was an easy 8-3 win, and the second was a win over ninth-seeded Gonzales Austin and Jeffrey Offerdahl, 8-6. MacDonald and Mueck would fall in the quarterfinals by a score of 8-2.

Patrick Bandy and Michael Diaz lost their opening match 8-6, and the seeded duo of Mesa Mei and Jimmy Roebker lost their opener to Tennessee 8-4.

The Musketeers will continue play in Memphis tomorrow morning.
