Men's Tennis Completes Doubles Play at ITA Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Both Xavier men's tennis doubles duos participating in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional, hosted by the University of Minnesota, picked up a win and a loss Friday night in main draw competition. Junior Doug Matthews is set to begin singles main draw action on Saturday.
The tandem of Matthews and sophomore Chris Herrlinger defeated Butler's Bayliss and Brown, 8-0, in their first match of the day. In their nightcap, Matthews and Herrlinger fell to Michigan State's Monich and Rinks, 8-4.
Junior Ra'ees Ismail teamed with sophomore J.T. Torbeck to get past Butler's Herron and Breitenbach, 8-4, in their first match. Ismail and Torbeck went on to lose to Indiana's Richter and Eilers, 8-0.
Matthews will continue to play as singles main draw action begins on Saturday. He is set to face Western Michigan's Kevin Hayward at 1:30 p.m.
