KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Xavier men's tennis team closed out the Tennessee Invitational strongly with two doubles teams winning championships and two individuals making it a consolation final.

"I felt we competed awfully well all weekend," said head coach Eric Toth. "Most importantly, our guys that are competing in the regionals this upcoming week in Memphis all got great match play and performed well. They should all be poised to have a good tournament."

Freshman Adam Krull and sophomore Michael Moe topped Dayton's Colin Bernier and Joshua Malyon, 8-6, to win the White Doubles Draw. The duo won all three matches it played this weekend.

In the consolation of the Orange Doubles senior Brandon MacDonald and freshman Zach Mueck won an 8-5 decision over Myles Harris and Evan Neuman of Wright State.

MacDonald also reached the finals of the Orange Singles Consolation draw after beating C.J. Griffin (4-6, 7-6 (6-4), 1-0 (11-9)). Joining him in the finals was teammate Mesa Mei who pulled off a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) victory over Manuel Barroetavena from Chattanooga. The two were to meet in the championship but the match was called off.

Xavier will close out its five-weekend fall schedule at the ITA Regional Championships in Memphis, Tenn. next weekend. Only a select group of players will make the trip for Xavier.
