KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - It was a mixed result for the Xavier men's tennis team that saw junior Jimmy Roebker advance to the Orange Singles main draw on the opening day of the Tennessee Invitational on Friday.
Roebker had the best run of any singles players on the day for the Musketeers. The junior picked up two victories and advanced to the quarterfinals in the Orange singles draw. He defeated Wright State's Michal Lyzwa (6-0, 7-6, 6-1) and Winthrop's Yuta Hirokawa (6-2, 7-6) to move on.
Junior Mesa Mei and freshman Zach Mueck also picked up first round victories in the Orange singles draw. Mei defeated Dayton's Aidan Koross (3-6, 6-2, 6-2) before losing to Tennessee's Hunter Reese (7-6, 4-6, 6-1). In doubles play all but two Xavier teams advanced to the semifinal round. Mei and Roebker teamed up for an 8-4 win over Louisville's Alex Gomet and Michael Lippens in the Goodfriend doubles draw. Bandy and Diaz hung an 8-5 result over Louisville's Luis Elizondo and Chris Smich and Xavier's Krull and Moe won their doubles match, 8-4, against Tennessee Tech's Vasily Eremeev and Artern Tarasov.
