Xavier Ends Play At All-American Championship
Sept. 30, 2012
TULSA, Okla. - The remaining players of the Xavier men's tennis team were eliminated from the pre-qualifying flight of the 2012 ITA Men's All-American Championship on Sunday.
Juniors Jimmy Roebker and Mesa Mei both lost third round matches ending their chances at reaching the qualifying stage of the tournament. Senior Brandon MacDonald also lost a bonus match after being bounced from the main flight on Saturday.
"I felt Brandon, Mesa, and Jimmy represented themselves very well over the last couple of days," head coach Eric Toth said. "Today was unquestionably a rough day and hopefully today's defeats will prove to be a valuable learning experience as these three continue their fall seasons."
Roebker fell to Virginia Tech's Amerigo Contini in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) as did Mei who lost (6-1, 6-3) to Virginia's Ryan Shane. MacDonald lost both sets to Penn State's Roman Trkulja by similar 6-3 scores.
The tournament comes to an end for the men's team that returns to the courts at the Tennessee Invitational on Oct. 12.
