MASON, Ohio - Xavier's season came to an end as it was handed a 4-0 loss by No. 30 VCU in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

The fourth-seeded Musketeers finish their season with a 20-5 overall record after becoming the first men's team in program history to reach the milestone in the win column.

"It's always tough when it all comes to an end, but our guys have a lot to be proud of this season," head coach Eric Toth said. "Today we were simply beaten by a better team. VCU has one heck of a team.

"This group has been so fun to be around each day. Our seniors Patrick Bandy, Phil Diaz and Brandon MacDonald have all given quite a bit of themselves during their time at Xavier. They have all had fine careers and I appreciate all they have done for our program. Coach Matthews and I will really miss them."

Xavier and top-seeded VCU began the match off with the crucial doubles point and the Rams were too much to handle for the Musketeers

The Musketeer combinations of Patrick Bandy and Philip Diaz along with Adam Krull and Zach Mueck got off to a 1-0 start in positions two and three, respectively. Their leads would slip away as the Rams would win at the No. 3 position. The second doubles match went unfinished.

Mesa Mei and Jimmy Roebker fell behind and were unable to contain their opponents at the No. 1 position.

Xavier, starting down a doubles point for the second-straight day, needed four tough wins against a tough singles lineup that include two nationally-ranked opponents.

Roebker dropped his singles contest to No. 30 Max Wennakoski, Mueck fell to Alejandro Argente and Krull was downed by Michal Voscek. Left on the court with unfinished matches were Brandon MacDonald, Bandy and Mei who took his first set over No. 74 Alexis Heugas

MacDonald finishes his career as Xavier's all-time winningest player in combined singles and doubles play.

"The future is bright for our program," Toth said. "We look forward to the challenge of playing in the Big East next season."
