FAIRBORN, Ohio - The Xavier men's tennis team is gearing up for the Atlantic 10 Championship and looked sharp in 6-1 road victory over a tough Wright State program on Wednesday afternoon at the WSU Tennis Courts.

It was the second win in as many tries on outdoor courts for the Musketeers (15-4, 6-0 Atlantic 10) who have three matches remaining ahead of the conference tournament. The A-10 Championship begins April 25 at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason.

"Today was a competitive match and a 6-1 outcome does not tell the story," head coach Eric Toth said. "Wright State really played us tough in singles and there was a moment where it looked like the momentum was going to swing their way. Our guys really did a good job closing the match out. The conditions were not ideal for both teams and I felt our guys adapted and competed well to get the job done."

Three of the singles matches came down to three-set battles with the Musketeers' Jimmy Roebker, Brandon MacDonald and Patrick Bandy pulling out wins. Xavier also snagged victories from Zach Mueck and Adam Krull after picking up the doubles point.

MacDonald had to rally after dropping his first set and took care of his opponent with two 6-4 set wins. For the season the senior is 14-3 at the No. 4 singles spot for Xavier.

Bandy was also behind after the first set, which went to a tie breaker. The senior rallied however to win the second and third sets to earn his third singles win of the season.

Roebker notched his 13th win at the top position for Xavier after a back-and-forth battle against his opposition. The junior also teamed up with Mesa Mei to capture an 8-2 victory in the No. 1 doubles match up.

Krull won his contest in two sets, including a tight second set decided by a tiebreaker. Mueck cruised to his 14th win at the No. 3 singles spot and helped pick up the Musketeers' other doubles victory came with partner Michael Moe.

Xavier now heads to Bronx, N.Y. to face Marist and conference foe Fordham this weekend. The Musketeers wrap up the season against St. Bonaventure the following weekend.
