Men's Tennis Closes out Regular Season with 4-3 Win at Temple

PHILADELPHIA - The Xavier University men's tennis team closed out the regular season portion of its schedule with a 4-2 win over Atlantic 10 Conference foe Temple on Saturday evening at the Cheltenham Tennis Center. XU has now won six straight matches and improves to 15-6 with a 6-2 record versus A-10 opponents while the Owls fall to 14-6.
Xavier recorded wins in four of the six singles matches while the doubles matches were not played after the Musketeers secured their fourth point. At No. 1, Jeremy Miller won his 16th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Jordan Krevitz. Freshman Doug Matthews improved to 22-10 on the season including a 7-0 record at No. 2 following a three-set victory over Milan Juricka, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
In the fourth position, Ra'ees Ismail cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Matt Struble for his 21st victory of the season. Senior Rob Simpson posted the fourth win of the night for Musketeers at No. 5 where he recorded a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Philip Gegenheimer.
The Musketeers will now begin preparation for the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, which will begin on Friday, April 7, at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. Seeding for the Championship will be determined by the A-10 Seeding Committee on Monday afternoon.
